Bridge of Lions — Like Wendy K. Leigh

Use your pedal power to bike over the Intracoastal Waterway via the Bridge of Lions, a 1920s Mediterranean Revival drawbridge near the St. Augustine Historic District. Spanning the Matanzas River, lions sculpted from Italian Carrera Marble guard the entrance of this landmark that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Sidewalks run along both sides of the bridge for cyclists and pedestrians. You’ll coast off the structure onto Anastasia Island, where you can swing left into the state park and ride alongside ancient sand dunes, then hit St. Augustine Beach and power up for a ride directly on the sand, with Atlantic Ocean breezes to cool you down.
