    La Jolla Children's Pool

Like most of California, La Jolla's majestic view of the Pacific enchants any beach bum; but its biggest draw is not the shoreline but what lies languorously on it. On La Jolla’s Children’s Pool Beach, get up close and personal with the enviably languid harbor seals. Separated by a flimsy rope, the sight of seals so close tempts every onlooker. As they bask in the California sun their coats, ranging from golden to chocolate brown to silvery gray, shimmer; their spots glint playfully; and, as they make their way to and from the shore, their bulbous bodies roll pleasantly across the sand. After you tire of the sight, take hold of your loved one’s hand and stroll down the walkway to absorb the majesty of the crashing waves against the craggy cliffs.

    Wall at Children's Pool

There are many different aspects of the children's pool. Sometimes its the joy of watching the seals bask in the sun or of watching the pups at play, sometimes their first venture into the ocean minutes after birth. Sometimes its to relax in the serenity of the sunset and waves. This visit brought me to experience the force of mother nature. I was hoping to see some people on the wall daring the waves, but it was obvious from the start that mother nature would be the victor here. A thing of beauty.

    The lush, surrounding greenery

Amir's Garden defines exclusivity. In fact, it is a difficult place to find if you're not looking for it. I stumbled into after following some stairs up to the "top" to see where they led. They led me to the quiet, secluded setting that is Amir's Garden. The garden is a ten-minute hike up from Griffith Park's street level and feels lush: flowers and greenery, with the surrounding trees that seem to reach for the sky. It's an ideal place to retreat for some peace of mind, if you don't mind sweating a bit to get there.
