Taking in the Scenery in Soufriere

Jutting out of St Lucia’s green, coconut-covered mountainside, La Haut Plantation offers a sweeping view of the island’s spectacular west coast: the twin Pitons, the Caribbean Sea, the former French capital Soufrière, and the smoking caldera across the valley. And it is this breathtaking vista that draws visitors to the family-run hotel, but they stay for the warm and welcoming staff, the freshly squeezed juice (easily plucked from one of many fruit-laden trees), the rich Creole food, and the privacy. Fifteen rooms on 52 working acres mean that you’re guaranteed to run into a goat every now and again, but with so many tasty mangoes and papayas around, can you blame them?
