Vista Point offers sweeping views of the San Francisco Bay, Angel Island State Park, Alcatraz Island National Park, the rolling Marin Headlands National Recreation Area, and the world-famous Golden Gate Bridge. By car, Vista Point is accessible by taking Highway 101 southbound to the Sausalito/Alexander Drive exit. Turn left and follow signs to Marin Headlands, then head uphill and make the immediate left and go down the hill into the parking lot. Parking is free, but limited on days with gorgeous weather (biking across the bridge is also an option). For the best views, take the path at the end of the parking lot down the wooden staircase and under the Golden Gate Bridge, which will bring you to the northeast side of the bridge. There, you'll find the quintessential Bay Area photo op and a perfect place for a picnic--and a chance to learn about the area from the fun facts displayed on various plaques around the point. The Bay Trail and other paths are accessible from here for those who want to keep exploring.
