Driving across the barren landscape of the Bonneville Salt Flats you will notice that you are the only living soul out there. The environment is inhospitable to both plant and animal life but is a great recreational opportunity, especially for those who love to drive fast. The Bonneville Speedway hosts races where cars have been known to exceed 600 mph, breaking land speed records. After a fresh rain shower, all tire and foot tracks are erased and the salt flats once again appear untouched. The stark visual contrasts have made this a favorite film location (the third Pirates of the Caribbean movie was filmed here).
