Inhaling Bavarian Baked Goods and Brats in Yalaha, Florida
Saturdays at Yalaha Bakery are special. The parking lot fills with motorcycles, bicycles, and autos. Bratwursts sizzle on an outside grill. An oompa band plays from 11 am to 2 pm. Step inside this improbably located old-world German bakery to take a sniff and a gander. The enticing aroma of yeasty breads emanates from the traditional stone-slab ovens. The long glass display counter is chock full of eye-pleasing pastries: tempting custard-filled tarts loaded with kiwi, raspberries, and fresh pineapple; strudel, plump with apples, cinnamon, and sugar. The back wall showcases preservative-free artisan breads—some loaves as large and round as hubcaps!
