Gorging on Gourmet Sausages and Beer in Los Angeles, California

If you're craving sausages and beer, look no further than Wurstküche, located in the downtown Arts District. Waiting in line at the cramped counter, you can't help but hungrily eye the sausage display case, which features classics (bratwurst, hot Italian), gourmet (kielbasa, mango-jalapeño-chicken), and exotic (Cajun-style alligator, duck-bacon, rattlesnake-rabbit). Pick a sausage and a couple of toppings, add an order of twice-fried Belgian fries, and make your way to the spacious, beautifully designed dining room. Sit at a communal table, or perhaps on the small patio. Better yet, grab a seat at the back bar, the better to pick from dozens of Belgian and German beers. Minutes later your food arrives; one bite and you're in beer hall heaven.

Being atop the food chain is something easy to take for granted. At Wurstküche, the chefs make it a priority to squeeze species science into exotic sausage form. Both the rattlesnake and rabbit coupling along with the alligator and pork combination stand out as the most explicit pairing of predator and prey into a single bratwurst. Accompany your pick with any of the dozens of imported beers, served in a specifically engineered glass, shaped to deliver the suds to you in their ideal state. Roll up your sleeves and begin eating an animal that eats another animal that you are simultaneously eating. Easy isn’t it? When it’s over, remember you still have a bubbly goblet of Oktoberfest proportions while the rest of the table wrestles their sausages into saucy submission.

Savory, mouthwatering sausages served in perfectly crusty buns at an affordable price? Check. Crispy double-dipped Belgian fries with a vast selection of dipping sauces like chipotle aioli or blue cheese walnut and bacon? Check. Modern, industrial loft-like design elements? Check. Tons of Belgian beers on tap like Chimay? Check, check, and check! Want to be adventurous? Try ordering the rabbit and rattlesnake sausage (tastes like chicken!) Have a bottomless tummy? Top off your meal with an apple ice-cream oatmeal-cookie sandwich. Run—don't walk—to Wurstküche. Located in the Arts District of Downtown Los Angeles (a worthy trip in and of itself), you'll stop here, plop yourself down at a communal table, and never want to leave.
