Putting the Camera Away at Wat Pho in in Bangkok, Thailand
You zoom. You focus. But Thailand's largest reclining Buddha just refuses to pose. It's utterly too large, too close, and too intricate to fit into one picture — at least not into a photo that does justice to something this majestic. The Buddha stretches 46 meters, from temple wall to temple wall at Wat Pho in Bangkok. Step back, pancake yourself against the ornate wall, and lose the spiraling etchings on the mother of pearl soles of his feet. Move in to gorge on gold-plated detail, and lose the Buddha's divine scope. It's maddening. It won't work. It's not the point, so the camera disappears. Immortal memories of this camera-shy idol will more than do.
