Celebrating Poetry With Walt Whitman in Huntington, New York
Celebrate the life of Walt Whitman, one of America’s greatest poets, by visiting his birthplace in Huntington. Learn about the colorful man who wrote Leaves of Grass, considered scandalous at the time of its first printing in 1855. The modest farmhouse was made into a state landmark in 1957. The property has continually been expanded upon, enabling it to host literary readings, lectures, workshops, exhibits and a poet-in-residence program. This year it’s the acclaimed poet Alicia Ostriker.
