Feasting on Vietnamese Garlic Crab at PPQ in San Francisco

Hot, garlicky, Asian-style Dungeness crab is one of those legendary, contemporary San Francisco dishes that's harder to find than you would think. Once the tourist traps have been eliminated from the equation, a clear leader emerges from the pack: PPQ Dungeness Island in San Francisco's Outer Richmond district. With prices that won't break the bank, this Vietnamese restaurant will provide you with enough crab roasted in garlic butter sauce to keep your crab-picking fingers busy all evening. The house garlic noodles are not to be missed, either.

If you could take just one photo: PPQ Dungeness Island

"You had me at Peppercorn Crab." A delicious and slightly intimidating (in the bets possible sense of the word) fusion of Vietnamese and Bay Area seafood specialties. take the server's recommendation and order one of the group dinners and be prepared for a hold-no-mercy onslaught of seemingly unending dungeness crab, garlic noodles, spring rolls, sea bass, braised beans, crispy chicken, papaya salad and all finished with a dessert of fried bananas and coconut ice cream.
