Drinking Whiskey and Whisky in Dublin, Ireland

It’s a novel idea, but why not visit an Irish bar—in Ireland? As you enter The Temple Bar in Dublin, history and conversation vie for your attention in equal parts; fading barrels and whiskey advertisements adorn the beer ‘garden’, and travellers from around the world chat over a drink or three. Established in 1840, this is a local institution, and houses Ireland’s largest whiskey collection. In fact, both whiskey (Irish) and whisky (Scotch) are sold. As your nose reddens, and your pockets grow lighter, it’s rather a sobering thought that there are more than 450 different bottles to try. But you can always have a pint of Guinness while contemplating just how much alcohol that is..

The Temple Bar

On the south bank of the Liffy is nestled Dublin’s Temple Bar, an area that throws tourists back to the Dublin they often pictured. With its narrow, cobble stone streets and brilliantly decorate pubs and storefronts, Temple Bar’s appearance alone greets with open arms. Listen to the street performers play traditional Irish music, ranging from rebel songs to classic fiddling. Have a pint or a hot meal at The Oliver St John Gogarty Pub, The Porterhouse, or the aptly named Temple Bar. Head over a few blocks to see the General Post Office where the Easter Rising took place in 1916, or retrace James Joyce’s footsteps along the River Liffy. Temple Bar, despite its touristy reputation, is a place to experience the true and warming spirit that Dublin beholds.
