At the corner of 6th and Brazos Streets, where downtown Austin's nightlife materializes each evening, the Driskill Hotel sits majestically—a luxurious home-away-from-home for its guests, and a posh place where others wish to stay. Built in 1886, the hotel was the showplace of Jesse Driskill, a cattle baron, and today is a symbol of Texas hospitality. Its grand columned lobby is quite the space, and the stained-glass dome in the Driskill Bar is a gorgeous touch. While its suites are pricey, it's possible to stay in a smaller (but still luxurious) Curio guestroom with enough left over to splurge on a farm-to-table steak downstairs at the five-star Driskill Grill.
