Taking in Art, Architecture, and Landscape in Riversdale, Australia
A few hours south of Sydney, in a pristine landscape with rolling hills, lush forests, and a beautiful meandering river is a masterpiece of architecture, the Arthur and Yvonne Boyd Education Centre. Designed by Pritzer-Prize-winning architect Glenn Murcutt, the complex hosts a residency program with events that showcase the work of the visiting artists. The building is simple and elegant and incorporates many sustainable design features—like rainwater collection from the cleverly designed roof. Waking up as the sun rises, you sit up in your bed and are presented with a carefully composed view of fog rising off the river. Morning dew makes the grounds sparkle, and bird songs fill the air with music. Wombats and kangaroos can be seen foraging for food at dusk and dawn while your days are filled with walks through the bush.
