Imagining the Old Definition of Punishment in Huntsville, Texas
The wood shines, and the back is straight and tall. It seems like an ordinary chair...except for the thick straps on the legs and arms, and the ominous headgear of hanging cables and wires. Old Sparky—the infamous Texas electric chair that cradled 361 inmates as they took their last breaths—was made by their fellow prisoners, and now sits waiting for curious eyes and disturbed minds in the Texas Prison Museum. The chair isn't plugged in now, of course, but you might want to find a better place to sit just in case.
