This exhibit challenges museum-goers to harness solar, wind, and water energy to power the lights on a structure that towers overhead. For example, changing the number of blades in the wind tunnel, alters the speed the hub turns and how much energy it generates. Then you can change the angle - slightly or dramatically - and watch the difference that makes. This is a tangible and fun 'if-then' lesson.

This thermal camera display, at the Tech Museum, is just one of the many exhibits that get kids - and parents - to pause and learn something. While normal cameras create images with visible light, what we perceive as color, thermal cameras capture wavelengths of infrared light that we feel as heat. The temperature is then translated into color. Warm areas are yellow, orange, red, and white while the cooler areas are blue, purple, and black.
