Charming the Djemaa El Fna in Marrakech, Morocco
Just minutes from the snake charmers, tooth-pullers and hustlers in the Djemaa El Fna, a stay at Talaa 12 is a passport to the centre of the action while offering a striking calm to the surrounding chaos. After arriving in a hand-drawn cart, you follow a small, dark vestibule to a light-filled courtyard. Overlooking rooms are shuttered in calm pale green—very Farrow & Ball; there are even bamboo wind chimes clunking softly in the breeze—and are simply styled, with large beds, two white leather tub chairs, claret-coloured rugs, and contemporary paintings dotted all over the riad.
