Chewing on History in a Renaissance Kitchen in Stirling, Scotland
A visit to Stirling Castle takes you through history itself. From walls that look over the plains where William Wallace and Robert the Bruce fought for Scottish independence, to the newly restored Great Hall where Kings and Queens once dined beneath it's massive, timber roof. But don't miss the kitchen exhibit, where you can stroll among life-sized figures of cooks and servants, with tables of food, slabs of meat, and baskets full of fruits and vegetables. It provides a rare insight into what life inside a renaissance castle was really like—living, working, and, of course, eating.
