Rejuvenating the Soul in San Francisco, California
Stepping through the door and onto the bamboo studio floor of the Sophia Healing Center, my eyes are drawn upward to the elaborate mandalas hanging on the brightly colored walls. I inhale, and the soft scent of incense reminds me that these high ceilings are not in a museum, but a sanctuary. Moments pass before I notice the girl sitting quietly on the ledge before the large front window, resting on plush pillows and humming softly as she meditates. I move slowly and deliberately through the space, making my way out the back door. A lush garden greets me. Nestled beside the wall is a cedar sauna, whose hot breath welcomes me as I step inside and release my worries into the thick, engulfing air.
