Capturing Culture at a Mall in Bangkok, Thailand

Temples, jungles, and beaches aside, perhaps nothing says more about current high Thai culture than this shopping mecca. The Siam Paragon godzilla mall in Bangkok is modern Thailand exemplified: from design (an entire floor of Thai chic furniture) to American influence (pick between four Starbucks) to automotive opulence (in case you can’t decide between a Lamborghini or Ferrari, this mall sells both). You arrive on the Skytrain, shop organically at its market, and lay back in loveseats in luxury movie theaters. If wats and monuments showcase Thailand’s past, this palace reveals something about where it’s going.

If you could take just one photo: Siam Paragon

Where better to hide from the swirling cacophony of Bangkok than at the movies? But you can see a movie at home. Spend a few extra baht to see a VIP movie! The Paragon Cineplex is perhaps the most luxurious place to savor the silver screen in Southeast Asia. Enjoy a massage before the film; follow your own personal usher to your seat, or more accurately, your remote controlled reclining sofa; and munch on tea, coffee, and cookies brought right to you during the film. And don't worry about leaving crumbs — you don't have to clean it up.
