Two words: Miss America. Atlantic City's Sheraton is a veritable shrine to the once-prolific beauty-queen office, with artifacts of winners-past decorating its corridors and lobby. If you've tired of the gaming hotels on the Boardwalk, this property is a bit of a hike from the seaside and well-suited to business travelers and non-gaming folk alike. Standard chain level accommodations are found within, and big, comfy beds are a nice feature. If you're in town for business, rooms are well equipped with a desk and inviting chair, with computer hookups and an office style phone. Though big-name AC restaurants are also a distance away, delivery options go late into the night. The Sheraton Atlantic City is a good pick if you're planning on holing up in your room and watching movies with a pizza instead of spending your trip at the slots or blackjack table.

Though Miss America skipped town to remake her image and revenues in Las Vegas, the pageant’s most identifiable MC and original crooner of “There She Is, Miss America” remains firmly planted in Atlantic City, waiting to crown anyone who stands before him. Bert Parks hosted the pageant for 25 years; his final years overlapped with the construction of Atlantic City’s first casinos. He now stands in front of the Sheraton Hotel, hands outstretched, fingertips just barely touching the famous tiara. Once triggered to sing when contestants stepped up, he now simply waits: his beneficent grin stretches the wrinkles on his face along with the moment of anticipation, as his eyes focus just above the contestant, forever ready for the photo-op.
