Connecting With Community Through the Peace Mural in Fairfax, CA

As you pass the Good Earth Natural Foods Store in funky Fairfax approaching from West Marin, you can’t help but spot the splash of color vibrating off the store’s massive western wall. This Seeds of Peace mural, an artistic tribute to social justice activists by Susan Cervantes and Miranda Bergman of Precita Eyes Muralists, is perfectly placed in Marin’s most laidback town. Stopping for a closer look, you recognize the figures of Mahatma Gandhi and Dolores Huerta surrounded by farmers, Miwoks, Latino farm workers, local activists, musicians, and many more. There in that diverse group of people pitching peace, you discover yourself, surrounded by Marin’s natural bounty, and take heart in the growing community of people who sow non-GMO seeds of peace and justice.
