Staying Put in a Cabin in the Woods in Savage, Maryland
Surrounded by nothing but 700 acres of state forest, the Savage River Lodge offers only eighteen private accommodations, each a luxe version of a log cabin. Cuddle up under down comforters in the bedroom loft and sink into armchairs by the downstairs crackling fireplace. For active travelers, the lodge offers fly-fishing courses; or, take off on snowshoes, cross-country skis, or a bike along the crisscrossing trails through the woods. Each cabin comes with rocking chairs and a porch, too, so the farthest you’ll have to go is out your back door. You might not even get that far—every morning, warm muffins and fresh fruit are delivered right to your doorstep, and hot chocolate fixings are already in the cabin, so why leave?
