Fiddling Away (and Drinking Whisky) in Glasgow, Scotland
So you say you don’t play the fiddle, but you’ve secretly wanted to try ? Mark your calendar for January and check out the schedule of workshops at the Celtic Connections Festival. There’s always at least one workshop which takes never ever held a fiddle before players up to a fun group play of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star or something similar in less than 90 minutes. Fiddles are provided, cost is reasonable, and the instructors are some of the best players and teachers around. If fiddle’s not your thing, you can also try out bodhran, mandolin, and other instruments, or sign up for a day-long chance to learn the pipes. If your fiddle skill is more advanced there are short workshops at several levels for you, too. Not a musician? There’s usually a whisky tasting workshop on offer as well.
