Dropping Into Double-Overhead Sets at Rincon in Puerto Rico
Steel yourself before dropping into what is considered to be the biggest world-class wave in the Caribbean. Hidden in the Tres Palmas Marine Reserve in westernmost Puerto Rico, Tres Palmas and its smaller-wave sister, Steps Beach, are only to be found if you look for the painted wooden dolphin sign reading, “Playa Escalera.” You'll run into plenty of surfers and bodyboarders, so consider some out-of-the-way spots if you're not big league. If you need help, try the Rincon Surf School.
