Riding the Train in Barrancas del Cobre, Mexico
The Chepe (Chihuahua al Pacífico Railroad) snakes its way ever so slowly through Copper Canyon over 39 bridges and through 86 tunnels on a 16-hour journey through a timeless landscape. It is indisputably one of the most beautiful train rides in the world. As the train rambles into the pueblos along the way, entrepreneurial women rush up selling snacks and traditional crafts. You might decide to take your time (even more...), stopping for the night along the way or going even deeper to one of the remote villages of the indigenous Tarahumara. The deep series of canyons is a green dream with dense forests, sheer rock faces, waterfalls, and crystal clear mountain lakes.
