Indulging at Boston's Best Pizza Joint in Massachusetts

A tacky neon sign lights the doorway, while inside an abrasive waitstaff scurries around beat tables and bruised floors while comically suggesting that customers get out of the way. Then a steaming pizza arrives at the table. The thin crust flops in your hand while cheese and sauce slide into a pool on your plate. Hurry to scoop the tip of the slice into your mouth. Warning: this is not first date material. It’s just too messy. But it's worth it all, just to savor the tangy sauce on your tongue—a flavor that has delighted generations of Bostonians. After you’ve paid the bill, head out the door and find yourself in one of Boston’s liveliest neighborhoods—the North End, home to late night cappuccinos and tiramisu.

Regina Pizzeria

Sometimes the wait is up to an hour long. Once inside you see why: it's chaos—and the waitresses are straight to the point, barking "sit over there" and then, almost immediately asking "whaddya want?" as if you're a local, already familiar with the menu. This is Regina Pizzeria, a North End institution and revered by pizza aficionados the world over. It's a fabulously crispy pie—thin crusted and oozing with melted cheese and freshly made tomato sauce—every pie lovingly handmade and comes straight out of the same wood-fired oven that they've used here since 1926. Order a margherita pie with fresh basil and grab the bottle of the garlic-herb oil that sits at your table, give it a shake, and generously slather it on. Don't worry about cholesterol today, rather savor the experience, knowing that you're doing it the way real Bostonians have for over 80 years.
