Waving Your Rainbow Flag in Boystown in Chicago
Halsted Street from Belmont to Addison is known as Boystown and is the center of Chicago’s gay scene. Nearly every store sports a rainbow flag sticker and along with trendy boutiques and classy restaurants, a proliferation of gay bars, discos, and sex-toy and adult-entertainment shops line the street. The neighborhood is home to the annual Pride Parade in June. Festivities start on Saturday with musical performances, plenty of booze, vendor booths, outrageous costumes, more booze, drag queens, political activism, and priceless people watching. The weekend culminates with the actual Parade, held on Sunday. Floats of go-go dancers, community groups, and alcohol brand sponsors go by, spectators drink and cheer, and nearly half a million people celebrate pride and acceptance with the city's wildest party.
