Swimming with Sea Turtles in Praia Imbassai, Brazil
Just north of Salvador, this fishing village is a favorite among those that stretch up the coast of Bahia. Where a gentle river meets the sea a young man will ferry you across to the other shore, pulling his raft along with a tall wooden pole. Deserted beaches of fine sand stretch for miles on either side. Sample skewered shrimp or sip a caipirinha under a thatched roof barraca. Choose from dozens of modest pousadas, awakening to a sumptuous breakfast of tropical fruits. Lounge in your hammock under coconut palms, swim with sea turtles or rent a small river kayak for the afternoon.
