Eating Pie for Breakfast in Port Orford, Oregon

From the window of your room at the Castaway by the Sea Motel, you can see the morning light move over the wrinkled cliffs, hear the water lap on the sand, and watch fishing boats being lowered by crane from the dock into the ocean (only about six ports in the world do it this way). If you’re lucky, you’ll see a gray whale making its way around the big rock in the middle of the bay, and if you’re smart, you’ll have saved a piece of marionberry pie from dinner the night before at Port Orford’s famous Crazy Norwegian fish house. There’s something topsy-turvy about this seaside town that makes pie in the morning taste absolutely right.

If you could take just one photo: Port Orford

Notorious for its beautiful Port Orford cedars that spread mountainous coastal expanse, this small gem, is hardly a city. Whether you are in the mood for a hike out to the secluded Black Lock Point or a gentle walk along coastal pine tree whispers near battle rock, this is a place where you can marvel at Oregon's rugged coastal beauty without the crowd. Renowned for having the best fist and chips on West-coast the Crazy Norwegians offers any fish lover something irresistible. Or, if you are more in the mood for a dining experience, sit and enjoy a delicious cocktail or fine wine with a panoramic view of the ocean at Redfish, this town has plenty to offer!
