Taking a Baroque Sort of Break at Schönbrunn in Austria
Gods linger amid the foliage. Sculptures of ruins and war's spoils gleam in the sunlight—reminders of the glory that the Habsburg family won for itself, along with the cost. Grassy slopes lead up to the Gloriette, crowning the hill above Schönbrunn. Looking out, Vienna spreads to a horizon only interrupted by Stephansdom's gothic spire. The Gloriette's café allows visitors to enjoy coffee and tortes and the sense of history that comes from a morning pick-me-up where Kaisern and Kaiserinnen took their own repasts.
