Inhaling Lavender on a Lake-Spanning Boardwalk in Guadalupe, CA
Walking the mile-plus boardwalk over Oso Flaco Lake in the middle of the Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes, you'll probably notice several species of endangered birds flapping around you. You can stop at a picnic table or bench in the middle of the lake, or continue to the dunes themselves, some empty craters and others covered with flowers—many of them so fragrant that walking past, you'll feel like you're in a fine soap store. At the end you'll come to the ocean, which you can run to across soft sand or just admire from the elevated end of the trail. Even the load rumble of off-road vehicles in the distance won't distract you from this heavenly view; maybe that's why The 10 Commandments was filmed here back in the day.
