Cheering for the National Team in Accra, Ghana
You're sitting on a stadium bench in a sea of red, yellow, and green when the fifty or more men in the rows next to you erupt into a raucous rendition of a local Ewe song. You spot a Black Stars hat as it sails over the group: it lands at the feet of a small girl selling sachet water from a bowl balanced atop her head and shouting, "pure water! Pure water!" over the cheers from the stands, which grow with the tune of the song. Soon you and the rest of the tier are clapping and shouting along—then the home team enters the football pitch and the crowd switches its focus, now roaring its support for the local celebrities below. The match is about to begin.
