Deciding Where to Start Your Adventure in New York, NY

Walking down 7th Avenue, you'd be forgiven for accidentally blowing past the NYC Information Center. But it would be a shame if you did. The room’s sleek design gives the impression that something appallingly expensive is going on inside—when in truth the entire experience is free. Step up to one of the glowing interactive maps (just like in the movies) and use a circular disk to steer your course on a virtual tour of the city. When you reach an area you want to explore, choose from a variety of categories including attractions, restaurants, and tips from famous locals. Click on a selection and all of your related options come to life. Save your favorites and when you’re finished, take your disk over to the video screen to soar over the city in 3D, looking down at the spots you chose. You can also send your discoveries to your e-mail or phone. Another wall offers touch-screen monitors presenting NYC FAQs in 10 languages.
