Savoring 3 All the Way at NY System in Providence, Rhode Island
The New York System is (oddly enough) a Rhode Island institution, and when you order the traditional “3 all the way,” you can see why. They start with three small hotdogs in snappy natural casings that slide into perfectly steamed buns. Then comes the spicy mustard, homemade meat sauce, chopped white onions, and finally—the kicker—a sprinkle of celery salt. It’s a mouthful you’ll be dreaming of (and breathing out) days after you leave, but the best part is the performance. While you wait, you can watch as the buns and wieners are lined up along the cook’s forearm and loaded up with condiments. It’s an only-in-RI experience: a greasy, savory bite for a late-night snack or lunch, or anytime you’re close enough to stop in.
