Trashing It Up on Nitt Witt Ridge in Cambria, California
Many visitors to the central California coast find their way to famous Hearst Castle, but just a short drive from that historical landmark lies another one, near downtown Cambria. Nitt Witt Ridge or "the poor man's Hearst Castle" as some call it, is well worth a visit. Art Beal, a local trash hauler for several decades, spent over 50 years building this folk-art masterpiece with only a pick and shovel and a heap of recycled everything. He believed that anything could and should be reused. The new owners (Art is long dead now) give a lively tour bringing to life all things weird and wonderful in this California State Historic Landmark (reservations recommended: 805-927-2690).
