Duffy Boats

My wish for my recent 50th birthday was to have a party on a boat in Newport Harbor. Being from Hawaii, I came up with the idea of a Hawaii 5-0 theme. Some friends of mine from Hawaii came and celebrated with me and my kids. It was a blast! The people at the Duffy operation let us come ahead of time to decorate the boat. My friend Carolyn showed up and danced the hula for me on the dock before we took off. Everything was perfect. We had mai tais, roasted duck, and poi which we prepared ahead of time and brought with us. We did the two hour ride which was just the right amount of time to loop the harbor. My son drove the boat, did a great job. Hiring a Duffy boat is an excellent idea for parties, celebrations, or whatever. Look for the groupon deals online like I did. Totally reasonable price and a boatload of fun. :)

Yes it’s a golf cart on water, and yes it tops out at about seven knots per hour, but a Duffy boat makes for the most leisurely tour of Huntington and Newport Harbors. The quiet, emission-free boats are easy to drive and accommodate up to 12 people. The Electric Boat Company (located in Newport and Sunset Beach), will rent you the boat and help you with the food. Full catering is available as are pre-packed picnic baskets. In Newport, you can pull up to a handful of harbor restaurants that offer dockside dining. (Try Kantina, Woody’s Wharf, and the Arches.)
