Reflecting in a Chinese Scholar's Garden in Staten Island, NY

A unexpected, hidden world exists within the New York Chinese Scholar’s Garden at the Staten Island Botanical Garden. Built by Chinese artisans to evoke a sense of infinite space, the garden features a house that seems to float over a pond, a waterfall, flowers, rocks, and walls, all in intricately irregular design work meant to capture the essence of a natural landscape. Step inside here to meditate and reflect, study, or simply to enjoy the beautifully simple, tranquil surroundings. You’re apt to forget both your woes and what century it is.
