Sculpting a World-Class Art Experience at the Nasher in Dallas, TX
Raymond and Patsy Nasher were vital patrons of the arts in their city long before the Nasher Sculpture Center opened in 2003. What luck that they saw fit to keep the bulk of their collection (at its core some stellar Giacomettis and absolutely heartbreaking David Smiths) together under one Renzo Piano-designed roof, right across the street from the Dallas Museum of Art. What’s more, Abakanowiczes, Hepworths, and Borofskys dot the half-acre outdoor exhibition area, where you’ll find James Turrell’s “skyspace” commission Tending, (Blue) almost by surprise. Chic, lively, but never claustrophobic, the Nasher is the quintessential urban oasis.
