Chilling in the Hidden Jewel of the Desert in Mt. Charleston, Nevada
Who knew just how exquisite nature could be—a stone’s throw from Las Vegas? There is life beyond the Strip! Mt. Charleston—a mountain climate in the desert—is half an hour north of Sin City. The crisp, cool air is the perfect respite from the stifling summer heat. It's twenty to thirty degrees cooler than in the city, where temperatures can climb to 120°. Hike amid bristlecone pines, aspens, and cedars, and camp in the summer. There are trees that smell like butterscotch. There isn’t a better tree to hug, and make sure to take in the aroma while you’re at it. Chill at one of several waterfalls. Backpack to higher elevations and set up camp, or roll on in with the RV. Ahh, bliss.
