Casting Off Routine Dining in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Before it was a first-class floating restaurant, the 106-year-old steel barque Moshulu (pronounced mo-shoe-loo) sailed the high seas, delivering coal, nitrate, coke, lumber, grain, and copper ore between Australia, South America, Europe, Africa, and America. Today she’s parked at Penn’s Landing on Philadelphia’s waterfront, and most vestiges of her blue-collar history were painted over during a 1990s retrofit that made her out to be a luxury liner. Next time you drop anchor in Philly, be sure to climb aboard Moshulu for some grub (it’s one of only five restaurants in the city to earn four or more AAA diamonds) or some grog (DJs spin at the onboard bar and dance club, Bongo Bar).
