Finding Ghosts and Grapes at Edgefield in Oregon
Twenty minutes from Portland, set on 74 acres of gardens, ponds, and vineyards, is McMenamin’s Edgefield Resort. Like other outposts in this Pacific Northwest chain, Edgefield is a reclaimed historic structure. The 100-year-old building began as a working farm and housed the area's poor, before it was renovated in 1990. In addition to 100 very affordable guest rooms, the property boasts enough attractions to keep you fed, happy, and possibly a bit tipsy all weekend long. There are three restaurants, two bars, a theater pool hall, spa, tea room, brewery, distillery, and wine tasting room, along with event spaces that host weddings and public concerts. As with many of the McMenamin’s properties, Edgefield is supposedly haunted; flickering lights, cold spots, and bumps in the night are common.
