Marveling at Magnificent Street Performers in Key West, Florida
Lots of towns have street musicians, but how many also have fire-eaters, acrobats, magicians, escape artists, human statues, and hoop-jumping cats? Well, Key West does. Stroll down Duval Street and it's one show after another, a sort of hundred-ring circus of freelance entertainers vying for your attention and your dollars. The best place to watch is at the daily sunset celebration in Mallory Square, where the fiery sky and lapping waves form a dramatic backdrop for the various performers. Some of the acts involve a bit of (benign) audience participation, so stay near the back of the crowd if you don't want to become part of the show (or venture to the front if you do).
