Passing a Lazy Afternoon by the Müggelsee in Berlin, Germany
To see a more peaceful side of Berlin, take the S-Bahn south-east to the neighbourhood of Friedrichshagen on the banks of the Müggelsee, the city’s largest lake. At the water’s edge, Weisse Villa, Berlin’s only family-run brewery supplies not only the bars of the city and beyond, but also a small restaurant next door where you can sit on the terrace overlooking the water. White-sailed dinghies bob in and out of the wake created by open-topped pleasure cruisers, whilst back on land walkers and cyclists follow the paths that run along the shore and into the surrounding forest. Others take the more relaxed option and kick back on the terrace with another cool beer and the weekend paper, and let another afternoon pass calmly by on the green fringe of Berlin.
