Listening to a Roaring River Breaking its Banks in Eldora, Colorado
There’s no marker; a ¼ mile toward Lost Lake in on the Hessie Trail in Indian Peaks Wilderness, simply listen for the sound of thunder rumbling through the forest to your left, where the torrential spring snowmelt throughout June expands Middle Boulder Creek into a spectacular waterfall. The river exchanges the sound of your voice for the spray of cool mist, engulfing your words of awe into the force of water pounding against the boulders and giving to you in return a veil of tiny droplets full of rainbows in the sunlight. Explore old mines and cabins in the surrounding woods or continue hiking to the lake. Nearby Nederland has restaurants to replenish your energy; stay the night in the rustic Best Western Lodge.
