Bargaining for Style in Paris, France

Vibrant fabrics line the walls of market stalls. The smell of fresh crepes hitting a hot griddle permeates the air. Dusty furniture is piled in corners, and bric-a-brac is strewn on tables. All you need to get the most out of this huge market, Les Puces de Saint-Ouen, is a wallet and a willingness to get dirty. Some stalls are more refined, but the best bargains to be had are those where digging and sifting is required. But attentión! Your ability to bargain is inversely proportionate to how much excitement you reveal.

Les Puces de Saint-Ouen

Once you've taken the obligatory snapshots of Sacre Coeur, make sure you get a couple of hours in at Les Puces (the flea) market in Porte de Clignancourt, just down the road from the famous sights of Montmartre. You can pick up a grand dining table if you have a spare $20,000, or a shiny paté knife for just a few euros. There are rugs, musical instruments, dolls, toys, furniture, clothes, chandeliers, luggage and mirrors to name a few. You can stop for a hot crepe and a rest, or keep digging through the stalls to see what magical trinket you might unearth. With time, patience and some good comfortable shoes, you're sure to leave with something to remember your trip to the biggest antique market in Paris by.
