Getting an Earful in Baltimore, Maryland
He knows more baseball than Sam Malone. He’s got a prettier face than Moe Syzlac, and is cuddlier than Archie Bunker. On nights when Dennis, the quintessential bartender, is pouring at Langermann's in the old American Can Company building, patrons find themselves entering another dimension, pondering profundities and losing the ability to remain upright on barstools while doubled over choking with laughter. He sucks them right in, calling the ladies “Sweetie," and channeling Yogi Berra, Tennessee Williams, and Tracey Ullman, all in the time it takes to open a Bud. His free-verse rant falls to a mumble before spewing an eloquent non sequitur about the Google machine, postmodern impressionism, or Condoleezza Rice. Regulars know not to ask about his latest round of golf or his beloved St. Louis Cardinals unless they’ve got plenty of time. Diners find themselves being led to their table in amazement, wondering “What just happened here?”
