Buying for the Macabre at a Coroner Shop in Los Angeles, California
An unlikely, but thoroughly unique, LA stop is Skeletons in the Closet, the LA County Coroner Office’s gift shop just next to its appropriately drab main lobby. Its awkward location means that on a bad day, you’ll have to walk uneasily past understandably nervous people hoping to not identify a body in order to get to the shop itself. Once inside, find a beach towel decorated with a chalk outline perfect for your day at Venice Beach (cookie cutters and post-its also available), a "Garment Body Bag" to protect your business suits, or a “We’re Dying for Your Business” mousepad for your office mate. Sure, these souvenirs are a tad morbid, but admit it—they are to die for.
