Delving Into HR Giger's Twisted Mind in Gruyeres, Switzerland
There's not really a bus from the Gruyeres train station—you'll need to trudge up the frosty mountainside into the quaint medieval town where the tortured soul, HR Giger, established his artistic realm. A world-renowned artist, Giger created the inimitable aesthetics of the Alien and Species Hollywood movie franchises, among other frightening spectacles. His horrific museum exhibits life-size statues of these monsters, as well as his notes and drawing plans of the Alien, rather graphic paintings, and changing exhibits. (He hosts other artists who push the boundaries of disturbance, such as one who paints in his own blood.) You can even go to the HR Giger Bar next door and warm yourself from the ubiquitous Swiss snow with hyper-expensive Alien coffee in comfortable chairs that look as if they're made of bone. Not recommended for children.
