The frothing waters of the Pacific surround the Hawaiian Islands, but up on Haleakala, Maui’s second sea rolls its snowy breakers 10,000 feet in the air. Fluffy white clouds drift past the shorn and scoured summit, lapping at the rocks that rose from the sea untold millennia ago.
