Rising Through Cloud Juice to the House of the Sun in Maui, Hawaii
Driving up the winding road to the top of Maui's ancient volcano, Haleakala, you'll pass by apple orchards, wild eucalyptus groves and cruise up through white, billowing cloud mist. Atop the the "House of the Sun" at 10,000 feet in elevation, you'll be high above the cumulus, to view vast craters of rare earth in hues of metallic orange, gold and rust. Think of a walk on another planet beneath azure skies. Permits for overnight backpack treks offer camping under infinite stars. A few select cabins are situated on the crater and can be reserved in advance.
