Drinking in the Friendly at Deep Creek Lake, Maryland
Deep Creek Lake has long been a destination for singles looking to kick back with a drink and families just trying to relax waterside. That diverse crowd has found common ground along Route 219 at Honi-Honi Bar. Tucked behind Pizzeria UNO, “The Honi,” as regulars call it, feels like the kind of place that would turn up in a Jimmy Buffett tune. Fruity drinks in plastic cups and an all-comers all-welcome atmosphere makes this a fine place for the vacationing social butterfly to alight upon. While many watch from the deck or sprawling lawn, most choose to take their drinks and "boat-hop" along the dock. Here it's easy to make new friends simply by helping someone pull their pontoon into that coveted last spot. Blame the quality piña coladas or the giant gorilla statue grinning down from the roof: friendly is contagious at The Honi.
